Simplify With Remote Controls

Remote controls were created to make your life simpler. They allow you to sit in your favorite seat and control every component of your entertainment system with the touch of a button, if you choose the right remote that is. Most remotes are infrared devices (IR) meaning that they communicate with the television and other components by means of infrared signals. These types of remotes are frequently known as universal remotes and can be used to control a number of different devices.

Compatibility is the biggest issue when it comes to choosing a universal remote along with the number of components it controls. Several companies that sell universal remotes offer compatibility lists online. It is a good idea to check these lists to see if all the components you want to use with the remotes will have full functionality. Some remotes offer special codes to program in components that aren’t specifically listed in its compatibility lists, but these codes are not always completely effective so it is better to go with a remote that lists all the components you want to control with your remote.

Usually satellite dishes come with some form of remote specifically designed for that particular satellite receiver. While these are nice, remotes can start to stack up when you are using a remote for each and every component you use. A multi-satellite universal remote can be an excellent solution to this problem. A multi-satellite universal remote gives you control over your satellite receiver as well as several other electronic components like DVD players, surround sound systems and video game systems, all while giving you the ability to control a new satellite receiver if you decide to change service providers.

High-end universal remotes offer several useful technologies like macro programming. Macro programming allows you to program the remote to perform certain tasks in sequence with the press of one button. Color LCD screens and touch screens are nice features that make it easy to identify the command you want to select and give the remote an aesthetic appeal. Touch screen remotes can be programmed though a computer, with customized background screens and button graphics. Aliases allow the remote to control functions on one component while the remote is in a different device mode. Some universal remotes can be connected to a computer to make macro programming a much easier process. Many of the universal remotes on the market can be upgraded through the computer to support devices not previously supported. A few universal remotes on the market even offer the ability to make phone calls meaning you can also eliminate a headset in your TV room. If you have a really large entertainment room or you have your electronic components hidden away, it may be a good idea to purchase a repeater which extends the range of an infrared remote.

Remote controls can save you some effort and universal remotes can save you the clutter of having a remote lying around to control every component of your home entertainment system.
