Choosing A Mobile Phone

Many of us have received unpleasant surprises when we open our mobile phone bill. Some mobile phone networks sneak in hidden fees and surcharges that add up very quickly resulting in excessive amounts due. The charges are most likely legal but were probably not brought up by the sales person who sold you the phone. This sort of practice has sent many of us shopping for another network. If you are in the market for a different network or if you are a first time buyer looking for a good package deal, the simplest way to shop is online. Online you will easily be able to find and compare the networks serving your area.

As you research each network, carefully dissect each offer. As seen above, the price advertised may not reflect the actual monthly cost for you. Use the contact information from each site you are interested in and ask all the questions you can think of about charges and fees, maintenance, insurance and reliability. If you are dissatisfied with the answers, avoid that network. Shop until you find the network that answers all your questions fully and that fills all your needs.

Before making your selection there are a few questions you should ask yourself: What is my monthly budget for a mobile phone? How many minutes will I use each month? What type of coverage do I require? What sorts of features do I need? “Pay as you go” or contract?

As a rule, the greater the coverage area and the larger the amount of minutes per month, the more costly the monthly service charges will be. If you do not intend to use your phone other than for occasional calls, you will be looking for a network package with a low amount of minutes and most likely, countrywide service. If you would use your phone for international calling with an expectation of lengthy conversations, you are looking at higher cost packages.

Are you a phone geek or do you just want your phone to make calls? Numerous options are available on the high-tech phones of today such as photo taking and viewing capability, twitter, texting, games, music, ring tones and Internet access. A phone can be an extensive entertainment center. The same rule applies to features as coverage and minutes ~ the more you get the more you pay.

Control spending with a “pay as you go” home plan. With this type phone you are restricted to the server the phone was designed to be compatible with, no switching networks. You prepay an amount each month and when that amount it used up, the phone is dead until monetarily recharged. The phone is purchased outright and the cost per minute is usually more than a contract program; for example 20p per minute for the first 2 minutes each day and then 10p thereafter.

Service agreements are normally the least expensive option over the term of the contract. An average contract would allow 400 minutes and 500 texts for monthly line rental of £13.05; less costly when you consider the combination of texts plus minutes. It is important to consider that the mobile phone is normally provided at no charge when you sign a service agreement with a cellular provider.
